Partially Severed
is a series of drawings that uses the female body as a site of struggle between subjective narrative and representations of women in Asian horror cinema. The drawings are an attempt to reconcile two opposing cultural identities. One which dictates strict social behavior, reinforced through emotional and psychological castigation and another that affords women rights and freedom bereft of rigid cultural obligations. Unable to sever my connection to Korean culture, I seek opportunities to communicate through a system of control I fight to shed.
