31 Days

31 Days was a drawing exercise performed every day during the month of January and December 2017

The work began as a response to the sense of collective shock and disbelief followed by disorientation and fear felt within my immediate community and nationwide after the results of the 2016 election. Searching for ways to engage with my community and add my voice to those who felt targeted by the incoming administration, I gravitated toward a familiar symbol of resistance, unity, and hope – the raised fist. I ended the year with another 31 drawings as a way to honor the solidarity that had been forged over the course of the year and also acknowledge the grief and loss so many were still experiencing.
