What Needs to Be Said: Hallie Ford Fellows in the Visual Arts

Oregon Contemporary, Portland, OR

Curated by Diana Nawi

February 15 - July 19, 2020

31 Days was a drawing exercise performed every day during the month of January and December 2017

The work began as a response to the sense of collective shock and disbelief, followed by disorientation and fear felt within my immediate community and nationwide after the results of the 2016 election. Searching for ways to engage with my community and add my voice to those targeted by the incoming administration, I gravitated toward a familiar symbol of resistance, unity, and hope – the raised fist. I ended the year with another 31 drawings to honor the solidarity forged over the year and to acknowledge the grief and loss many were still experiencing.
